While teaching in India, Paul Keene studied organic farming principles from Sir Albert Howard, known as the father of modern organic agriculture. Upon returning to the US, Keene and his wife Betty bought Walnut Acres and began producing organic foods. Gaining a reputation for high–quality foods, they grew quickly and became an early and vocal advocate for organic food products.
